Where have all the patriots gone?

Republicans this, Democrats that! Congress, to include the failed debt committee, are far too focused on themselves as individuals and parties. Do the parties even provide any value to the government or the system as a whole? How about society? I am really thinking that they do not. They are self-licking ice cream cones, fat wallets, big mouths of hot air, and spoiled brats. All of 'em. They have forgotten what it means to be a patriot.

They have forgotten what real hard work is, and that the majority of Americans are all-too aware. Merriam-Webster defines a patriot as "one who loves his or her country and supports its authority and interests." Let's break this down.

The first part is very straight forward and I would not dare question whether any of those in Congress love their country, assuming that their country really is the United States of America. I think you can love a country, or at least your selective parts of it, and not really be a patriot. That second half though, I think that part is where you see a stark difference; and it's here that I'll try not to get long-winded.

If a patriot is one who "supports...[[his country's]] authority..." then he must support the supreme law of the land. And what is that law? It is the Constitution of the United States of America! The vast majority of our Congress grew up with that knowledge. School teaching further deepened it. And yet, they are the ones making the laws that slowly, quietly, almost secretly destroy our supreme law! And those at the State level are just as guilty. They implement changes to education that have far reaching effects by distorting our children's views of freedom, capitalism, and the American dream (side note: the present version of the American dream is no longer the pure desire for liberty and justice that it once was).

As for supporting the country's interests, we are talking of our domestic interests in the way of education (most polls/estimates put the US at the middle of the road), economics (think debt super committee - failure), border security (well, that is for another time), etc. Now think about it, are we any better off in any of those areas? Have they improved over the last decade? Two? Three decades? That would be a resounding, NO! This would also include supporting America's foreign interests, too. Let's see, they want early withdraw from Iraq, Afghanistan, and pretty much anywhere the liberals cry we "invaded." They are pushing jobs, our jobs, off to foreign lands (and then asking why the unemployment rate is high). Oh my, I know I could go on, but I think we'll dive into each topic one at a time in the future.

In fact, feel free to let me know what you would most be interested in hearing about. I pray that you all have a Happy Thanksgiving!

A Facebook Chat

I was compelled to write on the Facebook page of the "occupiers" the other day, and received an interesting response. I was inspired in a way to respond in a manner that I hope helps others to grasp what is really going on. Here is the short discussion thus far. I'll post more depending on how long that goes.

My Original Post: Can you even identify any solution to the "problem" you believe exists? And by the way, I'm part of the 99%, but you DO NOT REPRESENT ME or FREEDOM for that matter! You represent spoiled rotten little brats hell bent on socialism!

Jorge: solution is abolishing money, why do we have to pay for everything?, caitalist system is unfare, maybe you have not being reached, but poverty is close to your window, open your eyes, capitalism request more profits everyday, it never gonna end, fields dead, no more fish on the sea. natural resources are not infinite. we need to restore everything, but occupy ignore this idea, they seem hippies, homeless, help them to focus about we really care. have a nice day patrick. by the way, sorry for mi english, i am learning the languaje in order to write them my ideas, but this page is like the world, each individual has a path and never see each other.

Me: Jorge, your English was just fine. However, you call capitalism unfair and I call Socialism unfair. One may define Communism as unfair. In practice, nearly every system you can imagine is unfair. First, they are unfair because people are people. We are greedy, over ambitious, and love power. That alone is enough to corrupt any system. Second, one must grow up and accept that life isn't fair. Again, due to the nature of human beings. We abuse the God-given gift of free choice to screw over our fellow man. As for poisoning the Earth, not much argument there from me, except to say that the Earth, just like people, began to die the day it was born.
You are absolutely on the spot too, that the occupiers ignore reality. They want what truly can never be achieved. They are hippies as far as they dream of what cannot be; homeless, because they choose to sit in a park with no plumbing, not showering, and hurting the small business rather than their original target on Wall Street as they deny customers' access to the local "little man"

The Real Grand Old Party - AMERICA

I am a firm believer that one should vote for the candidate that truly holds this nation's values at heart. It ought not be a battle over political party biases or who can beat the current president (though I look forward to Barry being a one-term wonder)! No, my fellow Americans, this must be about voting for the candidate that has the track record to vote and push in the direction you wish to see this nation go. So many out there want you to vote conservative, or liberal, or not at all, or whatever. I say they are wrong. I say you should educate yourself on each and every candidate before choosing. You should put aside your dislike for this president and vote for the best new president. Belong to no one party, except for that one truly grand old party called America!
