“...shall from time to time give to the Congress Information of the State of the Union, and recommend to their Consideration such Measures as he shall judge necessary and expedient...„From Thomas Jefferson until Woodrow Wilson these addresses were written; but during and after Wilson the President has addressed Congress in person each January after they have convened for a joint session.
If you've not had a chance to watch or read Mr. Obama's 2012 State of the Union (SOTU) address, I urge you to do so prior to reading further.
In keeping with that tradition, though in reality the Constitution requires it, Mr. Obama did so yet again on Tuesday, January 24th, 2012, at 9:10 P.M. Eastern Standard Time (EST). He entitled his message "An American Built to Last." Here are some exerpts with my brief thoughts and analysis. Please let me know your thoughts so we can have a hardy and Patriotic discussion. May God bless you as you watch and/or read the Mr. Obama's address and as you read my humble words and thoughts below!
He goes on to use phrases like, "restore and economy where everyone gets a fair shot", "everyone does their fair share", and "everyone plays by the same set of rules." Seem like benign statements? Or maybe you hear in his words that he wants the economy up and running strong, that everyone works, and everyone follows the law. Keep reading and let's see.
Again, just a few paragraphs later, as he discussed the auto industry bailouts, Mr. Obama stated, "we demanded responsibility", "We got workers and automakers to settle their differences. We got the industry to retool and restructure." He is saying that he believes that his administration came in and saved the day, that big government works and can make it all better. I ask you, was that really his job to do? No. His not allowing the industry to "fail" was another attempt to show his big, socialist idea of a government is there for you! That they can bring greatness back. Name me one socialist nation that has ever even come close to the greatness of America in this world! You can't. There isn't one. I'm not going to rehash what most of have already read about this, except to say that failure of those companies would have produced a greater push in small and medium businesses, who would have hired and expanded and hired more. But, I digress.
More expansion in government is mentioned when Obama discussed the creation of a Trade Enforcement Unit! The goal for this unit, he claimed, is to investigate unfair trade practices abroad. However, there isn't much this unit will be able to do in the way of investigating a country like China, rather it will be investigating US companies abroad and yet again delving big government further still into the lives of private American citizens. In fact, this will increase the prices on those items we do import, and in kind countries will place higher costs on our exports across their borders.
In the final sentence of that same paragraph, Mr. Obama states that it's, "...an economic imperative that every family in America should be able to afford," as it pertains to kids attending college. Really, is it? Trade schools are the ones putting the mechanics out there, the beautician, carpenters, etc. Not colleges. Once again, it's socialism at it finest, everyone working for the collective so we are on equal ground in every way. Think about it, nowhere in our Constitution or in the Bible does it ever say that life is going to be fair. When either talks of equality, it's as a human being and creation of God, not that we have all the same stuff or same amount of funds. Not once does either state that you won't have wealthy folks, poor folks, etc.
I'm not going to site every paragraph from this point, as I didn't intend to be this long winded. So, here are some other quotes from the Mr. Obama with quick thoughts after them.
"It means we should support everyone who's willing to work..." Referring to jobs, and using inequality of pay for men vice women (which does exist), to sugar coat another socialist reference. I don't know about you, but I'm not working my butt off to support my neighbor. It's for my family. If I choose to provide some help to you my neighbor, then how, when, where is my choice!
"...reminding us that government support is critical in helping businesses get new energy ideas off the ground." Critical? That is simply a lie. Business do not need government assistance for new energy ideas. They might need permission, since Obama's administration thinks they run everything.
In his misguided perception as a legislator, Mr. Obama went on to say that "...I'm sending Congress a plan that gives every responsible homeowner the chance to save about $3,000 a year on their mortgage, by refinancing at historically low rates." Now, correct me if you think I'm wrong, but didn't we discuss earlier how HE'S NOT A LEGISLATOR, but an executive?! The President is Constitutionally forbidden to introduce legislature. He can ask those in Congress to do it, but he cannot do it himself. Sure doesn't sound like that's his intention. Oh, and by the way, lowering mortgages is only a band-aid on the gaping wound of the housing market and will not come close to saving that industry or saving the people a ton of cash in the long run. In some fashion, that's exactly what started the problem.
Other socialist remarks came later, too. "An America built to last insists on responsibility from everybody."..."That's why we need smart regulations to prevent irresponsible behavior."..."I will not back down from protecting out kids from mercury poisoning, ...food is safe...water is clean."..."I will not go back to the days when health insurance companies had unchecked power to cancel your policy, deny your coverage, or charge women differently than men."
On that last one, I have to say, that the cost of a mammogram is different from prostate exams, end o' story.
Obama went on to relish how we now have a WATCHDOG in Richard Cordray (not a choice selection really). He commented how Cordray has one job: "To look out for [consumers]." NO THANKS, I can look out for me just fine. Do you understand what he's saying? He's telling you that you cannot possibly watch out for yourself.
He decidedly went on about how he's going to "establish a Financial Crimes Unit of highly trained investigators to crack down on large-scale fraud and protect people's investments." What he means is going to watch the folks messing with your money by increasing government spending on yet another expansion of government, which is really an unlawful police unit. The FBI already does this folks. And they've been pretty damn successful; think Madoff.
He again looks to expand government saying, "...I'm asking my Attorney General to create a special unit of federal prosecutors and leading state attorney general to expand our investigations..."
Here is the last bit...
"They know that this generation's success is only possible because past generations felt a responsibility to each other, and to the future of their country, and they know our way of life will only endure if we feel that same sense of shared responsibility." No sir, America isn't great because they felt a responsibility to each other or just the future of America; it is great because they relied on individual responsibility and the foundational, traditional family unit!
"For starters, I ask that Senate to pass a simple rule that all judicial and public service nominations receive a simple up or down vote within 90 days." So rather than the simple majority rule, which has gotten us through the past 236 years, he would have a yes/no answer from Congress, period. His proposal is one that subjugates the vote in a manner such that the majority Republican or Democrat is irrelevant in the House or Senate.
"...I've asked Congress to grant me the authority to consolidate the federal bureaucracy..." Socialist leadership wherein he's asking for greater power against the will of the people and the supreme law of the land.
"With or without Congress, I will keep taking actions that help the economy grow." He's going to disregard Congress and blow them off, doing whatever grandiose cowboy thing he feels like doing. No vote needed in his mind.
"I've already sent this Congress legislation that will secure our country from the growing dangers of cyber-threats." Yet again, he has no legislative power!
"...our destiny is stitched together like those 50 stars and those 13 stripes." Sound wonderfully patriotic doesn't it. However, my destiny isn't tied to you or anyone else's.
"As long as we are joined in common purpose,...maintain our common resolve..." Socialism.
“Think about the America within our reach: A country that leads the world in educating its people. An America that attracts a new generation of high-tech manufacturing and high-paying jobs. A future where we’re in control of our own energy, and our security and prosperity aren’t so tied to unstable parts of the world. An economy built to last, where hard work pays off, and responsibility is rewarded.„ -- Mr. Obama, '12 SOTUAmerica used to be the leading educator. Our students from grade school to college classes once ranked among the top learned people in the world. And when those young men and women graduated they went out and were productive members of society. They worked hard, took responsibility, and built an economy that would have lasted...if only the banks had done the same! There was also a time when high-tech meant American and the best jobs were found right here on our soil!
“They understood they were part of something larger; that they were contributing to a story of success that every American had a chance to share -- the basic American promise that if you worked hard, you could do well enough to raise a family, own a home, send your kids to college, and put a little away for retirement.„This serves as his springboard to the subtle socialist tone of his address. Now, I'm not saying that socialist cannot be patriotic, but because we are talking about America and what made this country strong, I'm saying that it's a false pretense of sorts. That is, the patriotism is there, but it's either misunderstood by the socialist, or it's an outer shell hiding their true purpose. In the case of Mr. Obama, I believe it to be the latter. Moving on.
“In 2008, the house of cards collapsed. We learned that mortgages had been sold to people who couldn’t afford or understand them. Banks had made huge bets and bonuses with other people’s money. Regulators had looked the other way, or didn’t have the authority to stop the bad behavior.„Yes, the banks did screw it up. They did so out of greed. They did it because, while the capitalist system works, it is not that different from other systems insomuch as it is worked by humans who are greedy, selfish, and power-hungry. The Patriots of America are from now on going to watch what the banks are doing. Guaranteed is the name the game for that. But what the Patriots don't need or want is that last part of the Mr. Obama's statement, "Regulators...didn't have the authority to stop the bad behavior." In other words, Congress and the people of America should give him, and thus, his regulators (read Financial Czar, Secretary of Treasury, or other such term), more power to contain the banks, to monitor everything they do, and to infringe more on the individual privacy of the people. A few paragraphs later, Mr. Obama touched on this again, "And we've put in place new rules to hold Wall Street accountable, so a crisis like this never happens again."
In fact, this will increase the prices on those items we do import, and in kind countries will place higher costs on our exports across their borders.
“I want every American looking for work to have the same opportunity as Jackie did. Join me in a national commitment to train 2 million Americans with skills that will lead directly to a job. My administration has already lined up more companies that want to help. Model partnerships between businesses like Siemens and community colleges in places like Charlotte, and Orlando, and Louisville are up and running. Now you need to give more community colleges the resources they need to become community career centers -– places that teach people skills that businesses are looking for right now, from data management to high-tech manufacturing.„Several times in discussing jobs, Mr. Obama spoke on "national" things. He asked the people to join him in a "national commitment to train" Americans. First of all, we are federal, not national, there's a huge difference. Second, he speaking of a socialist action here, evidenced by the final sentence in the paragraph. He is saying that it's our responsibility as a "community" to provide for each other, to invest in colleges for each other. I'm all about helping out my neighbors, but I WILL NOT be forced by the government to do so!
“For less than 1 percent of what our nation spends on education each year, we’ve convinced nearly every state in the country to raise their standards for teaching and learning -- the first time that’s happened in a generation.„To help with the job issue Obama then claimed education as a big government responsibility. Tie that in with his 2009-'10 school year opening address to as many schools as he could reach via the televised address to our kids, and we're again talking about socialism. Education IS NOT the responsibility of the federal government. That is a state issue, and a state issue alone! Here's more of the same socialist education goals:
“Teachers matter. So instead of bashing them, or defending the status quo, let’s offer schools a deal. Give them the resources to keep good teachers on the job, and reward the best ones. (Applause.) And in return, grant schools flexibility: to teach with creativity and passion; to stop teaching to the test; and to replace teachers who just aren’t helping kids learn. That’s a bargain worth making.„A deal, with free resources, from the federal government which will grant them flexibility. Wait, aren't public school the responsibility of the states? I believe that this has always been the intention from the inception of America! Remember that in the beginning the states were States, sovereign in their own rights, but chose to be federated, not subjugated, under the Constitution.
“We also know that when students don’t walk away from their education, more of them walk the stage to get their diploma. When students are not allowed to drop out, they do better. So tonight, I am proposing that every state -- every state -- requires that all students stay in high school until they graduate or turn 18.„Really, Mr. Obama? I have to point out the "duh" factor in that first sentence. As for the rest, read the socialist nature of it carefully. He would make it so that your sons and daughters won't be ALLOWED to drop out. And he would levy the law on states requiring as much. I'm not in support of dropping out, but as a parent don't you find that yet again intrusive into your personal life; a invasion in fact, and a violation of your rights as a parent. Essentially, this is Mr. Obama saying he knows better than you as a parent and he'll make it so that if you cannot keep your child in school, he will. Between the statements of education standards from the federal government and the threat of punishment under law for dropping out, this is mandatory federal education speak.
“Of course, it’s not enough for us to increase student aid. We can’t just keep subsidizing skyrocketing tuition; we’ll run out of money. States also need to do their part, by making higher education a higher priority in their budgets. And colleges and universities have to do their part by working to keep costs down.„See, yet again, it's not about the American working hard or the wealthy man who did that before to earn his money now. It's about the collective providing the aid and doing their part to suck up money loss for the "little guy" to be able to afford the cost of college. I'm not saying the prices for college aren't excessive, but there are many schools to choose from, also. So, why not take your money where it is not so expensive. The next paragraph went into how Mr. Obama has already done so much to work with college presidents in dropping costs. He said that the schools have "redesigned course to help students finish more quickly." Indeed, many schools have done this, and in doing so they have cost us our high place in ranking among the other countries in education even at the collegiate level. Redesigned means reduced effort on the part of the student, and often teaching social justice in class regardless of what the actual course is suppose to teach. That is, math class is becoming a social justice numbers lesson. And by helping kids to finish more quickly, well, that just means you get the same credit for a shorter and easier course load.
